i believe.

I have thought a lot about Santa and telling Denver who he really is. I've thought about telling him that he is just pretend, and with that impacting on him the true meaning of  Christmas.
I know a lot of people who have told their children this. I have so much respect for that because 1 - It is a huge statement to those children what you want for them. That you want them to only know Christ, and always know the He is the reason for the season.
And 2 - I seriously could not imagine the look on Denver's face if I told him Santa was not real. He would either look at me like I am a total idiot, and I didn't know what I was talking about... Or the look of broken-hearted of learning that truth.

After thinking about it quite a bit, I've decided not to tell Denver that Santa is a myth.
I looked back on my childhood and remember each Christmas Eve and the excitement that comes with it. I remember sleeping in the same room with my brother and sister, and all being giddy, and not being able to go to sleep - and always listening for that little hope of jingle bells outside.

I remember setting our alarm at 5:30 for Christmas morning, only to do jumping jacks until 6 am... (That's the earliest we could go into the living room). I honestly remember that feeling, that excitement in my heart... I remember it like it was yesterday. It was like magic!

My point? I've grew up in the Godliest of homes. My parents made sure of that. Each Christmas Eve, I also remember reading the TRUE Christmas story. The Story of Jesus' birth. Karen reads it each year from the BIG family Bible. I also remember holding hands and going around the circle and saying a prayer. My parents wanted to be sure that we knew WHO came first. We still do this each Christmas Eve.

I believed in Santa for a long time. And I LOVE those memories. I want Denver and Brita to have those memories too. I know that if Jason and I , and the rest of my family all set the right example and put CHRIST first each Christmas, Denver and Brita will grow up knowing what is truth.
With that, I'm signing off for 2010. I wish you all the merriest of Christmases and lots of love and laughter for 2011!!

Love it Katy! Brought tears to my eyes. I love hearing about family Christmas traditions and the story of Christ's birth is quite possibly my favorite story in the bible. Merry Christmas to you all! We miss you!!

Elliot asked me three years ago if santa was real. I told him santa is short for saint nick. He was real but has been dead for many years. I went on to tell them the story of Saint Nick and his work. After all he was a Christian man. Jesus is the reason for the season so by no means do I focus on it. Came back to get me tho. As soon as we picked up Audra and Libby, Elliot blurted out, "Libby did you know Santa is dead?!!" She freaked out and cried. So I explained it to them as well. When their mom came to pick the girls up on Christmas day, Libby ran to her mom and said, "Momma did you know Santa is dead?!" -Melissa
